Year 4
Welcome to our Year 4 page.
Here are some of the thngs we have been doing in Year 4 recently
In school we are learninng to speak Mandarin.
Every week Emily comes to school to teach us. We have learned how to say hello and goodbye, our colours and numbers.
We had a lovely workshop with Emily and her friends as we made pandas.
We have been taking part in Shared Education with P4 pupils in St. Pauls' Primary School and Ballinamallard Primary School.
We travel to each others schools to take part in outdoor lessons learning and collaborating together.
We have made bird feeders, did some bird watching and built nests at Ballinamallard. We have made outdoor art in the style of James Brunt , searched for minibeasts and made some graphs using the Just2easy app at Irvinestown PS and at St Pauls we completed some mindfulness, built dens and investigated a nature Literacy key to find out what the words said.
We are looking forward to returning to Ballinamallard and going to Necarne after Easter
During Science week we had fun making Bug hotels, completing a big build around our Living things topic, investigating skeletons in different animals and humans and their joints and completing our results keeping for the Edina Trust Bulb project.
We also planted potato plants and pollinating plants to help attract pollinators which are vital for our environment.
It was a very busy week!
It was World Book Day at the start of March and we had great fun dressing up as our favourite Book Characters.
We also performed an assembly on the importance of reading and the Bible to the whole school and our friends.
We also completed a quiz and watched a "Masked Readers" video and guessed who the readers were.
P1 received an envelope from 2 special teddies asking them to write a combined whole school adventure story with them as the main characters.
This was then passed around all the classes and Mrs Harron read it to the whole school on Friday of Book Week. After it was finished Paul and Kevin from Enniskillen Comic Con came to help us draw the characters and we are going to make a book that can be given to every pupil in school.
We also loved having Book Fair in school this week and we raised over £3000 which means we receive over £1800 in books and resources for our school.
We were very luck to get to go to see the Longest Yarn display at Enniskillen Cathedral. This was the only place in Northern Ireland that the display was visiting so it was too important to miss!
This display was all made out of knitted characters. It was amazing to see all the details and learn that some cases took over 800 hours of work to create them.
After Christmas our new Topic was Living things where we learned all about what animals need and what types and groups there are.
We had fun learning through Activity Based Learning using Beebots, craft to explore pneumatics, exploring and understanding animal habitats using printing, playing games to learn about food chains and animals groups and exploring outside to look for minbeast and then compiling data files and making graphs to show what we found. We loved building our minibeast hotels!
At Christmas we had fun performing in THE CARETAKER'S SURPRISE on stage in front of our parents.
Some of us were in the IPS Choir and we sang at the Library and at Supervalu as well as at both the show and the Senior Carol service.
The School Musical Tutor's orchestra came and performed for us and we had a vist from both Santa and Tom Sweeney to sing us funny and festive songs.
We had a party in our classroom to celebrate.
We have been learning all about multiplication and arrays. We went outside to look for sets and groups that we could multiply together.
Can you work out the sums?
In Term 1 we were learning all about WW2. We really enjoyed this topic. We loved learning through our Activity Based Learning - making gas masks, WW2 junk models, Blitz pictures and WW2 propoganda posters, carrying out black out and water proofing experiments and coding with Scratch junior. We went for a visit to Enniskillen Castle and we walked to look at the War Graves in Irvineestown. We learned all about the role of Necarne and Castle Archdale in our locality. We loved dressing up as evacuees and performing our WW2 assembly. It was a very enjoyable topic.
We are taking part in an experiment to see if the changes to our weather and seasons is affecting the growth of Spring Plants. We planted daffodil and Crocus bulbs on the 21st October alongside the pupils in P6 and many other schools throughout the UK. We will monitor these and upload our results to the Edina Trust.
Look how our bulbs have grown now.
We took part in Maths Week Ireland. We took part in an Izak 9 challenge, we completed an online Maths quiz, took part in a Maths mystery challenge and worked in groups to solve problems.
During our lessons on 3D shape we used marshmallows and coctail sticks to make 3D shapes such as cubes, cuboids, triangular prisms and pyramids. We counted the edges and vertices.
Each week we take part in
Activity based Learning in groups.
We have been making WW2 Models, Blitz pictures, Gas masks, WW2 Posters and completing experiments about Blackouts and Waterproof Materials. We are also learning how to use computer code to make a WW2 story.
We have been using c2k Newsdesk.
We used it to learn about Autumn and then we watched videos and read information about life as an evacuee.
As part of our work on time,
we went outside to the garden to make clocks showing the times we were given.
We used our imagination and made some fantastic imaginative clocks using natural materials
On Roald Dahl we went down to Irvinestown Library to listen to some stories and to look for Minibeasts. We will be reading Roald Dahl James and the Giant Peach after Christmas.
